Question

dd mentioned AG stuff in previous years, but this year she turned 9, and has been talking about them since her birthday. I hated to spend so much because she has had generic dolls before and didn't take care of them. She worked since her birthday and finally told me she had earned enough money to buy Marisol, and that is what she wanted very badly. So, now she has had Marisol for a few weeks, and has taken such good care of her, I'd like to continue on the journey, and do something special in the way of AG for Christmas. I need a bunk bed or a double bed for her doll, as I plan on purchasing Kit for her Christmas gift. Also, where can I go for inexpensive clothes -- besides ebay? I don't care if the clothes are AG, as long as they fit. Will Target's brand fit the AG doll? Anything else I should know about AG????
Any special tips for their hair -- to keep from getting frizzy??? I was always a Barbie girl when I was dd's age, and don't have much experience with this type of doll, so anything you can suggest would be a great help. Thanks.

First - Welcome to the board and the world of AG!

I would recommend buying the wig brush from AG - it helps keep their hair just right.

Since you are planning to buy Kit, I would think about buying Kit's bed since it will fit 2 dolls with the trundle section raised. Kit's bed is very nice, I really like it a lot.

I haven't had much luck with the Target clothes fitting the AG dolls. The Target dolls are skinner. When we first got into AG last year I wasn't too interested in the clothes, but after getting a few sets, that is pretty much all I buy now. The quality is just much better than most anything else on the market, plus all the cute accessories to go with them.

Watch out though, you'll be buying AG for you next! It's a slippery slope!

Welcome to the board!!

I would definatly recommend that you buy the wig brush.

If your dd has marisol you might want to think about buying up any of her items that dd might want because they are all almost sold out ...... Just a thought.

As for outfits from Target And walmart, I haven't had any luck getting them to fit I do however know a sweet lady online who makes AG sozed doll clothes and doesn NOT list them on ebay .... her prices are very very affordable and very nice quality (PM if you would like her addy)

You and your dd will have so much fun with this collection, ENJOY!

Welcome to the board! AG is a slipper slope.

I second getting Kit's bed. Kit's is my favorite of all the AG beds and the fact that it sleeps two makes it all the better.

Welcome to the board and to AG! That's great that your daughter saved up to buy Marisol herself - it will make the doll mean so much more to her. As for the bed, I agree with everyone else about getting Kit's. For clothes, I really like the quality of the "real" AG clothes, and I've also gotten some great clothes from eBay and seamstresses on this board. Other than that, though, I'm afraid I can't help you much. Good luck!

Welcome!!!
We have a couple outfits from Walmart. The pjs fit fine, but the pants on the other outfit are tight.Dresses and some things from Target might fit, but I think their pants will run tight.
I agree with the others that the Ag clothes are far superior and also much more stylish and cute than anything I have seen at Target or Walmart.
You could watch for sale items and monthly specials on the Americangirl website, you can get some good deals on outfits then and there are the codes you can use to get 10% off and sometimes free shipping.

I second the suggestion about getting Kit's bed. With the trundle, it will work for two dolls, and it would be a nice start to Kit's collection.

If you're interested in some cute, modern clothes for your daughter's dolls, I can PM you the name of one or two eBay sellers who do quality work at very reasonable prices. One does a lot of BIN (buy it now) auctions, so you don't have to wait for an auction to end. I refuse to post their names online, because I don't want competition from the ravening hordes of lurkers on this board.

ETA: They may be willing to sell outside of eBay, as well, if you're not comfortable buying through that venue.

Welcome to the board! Congratulations to your DD on saving for Marisol and Kit is a great second addition. Kit's bed would be a good start. The wooden retired AG trundle beds on ebay are nice, but some used ones currently going for more than the cost of Kit's bed brand new.

The wire AG brush is a must have for hair!

DD got some non AG clothes this past summer, not sure where they came from, but they do not fit well. The waistband on the pants seems to be for a doll with a bigger waist. The other outfit is too tight. Her stepmother bought them, but I don't know what store. I don't believe they were from Target.
